Originating at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, August: Osage County had a successful run on Broadway, winning the Pulitzer Prize for Best Drama in 2008. Subsequently, it has had many productions; throughout the world When Bob and I saw the film, we wanted to see the play since it felt like it really was a play and not a film despite an outstanding cast. When we heard that the The Dorset Players were going to perform it, we were excited and have been anticipating it eagerly since they had announced their program last year. Finally, it has arrived and it opens on Friday, May 20 7:30 pm and the same time on Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22 at 2 pm and the same times next weekend.
Knowing the quality of the productions at The Dorset Players, we looked forward to talking to the director, Sherry Kratzer, stage manager and actor, Tom Ferguson and actor Paul Michael Brinker. We were not disappointed. The insight we gained into the process was enlightening. Listen to their discussion and then see the play.
The set is an important part of the play. Here is the set designer, Drew Hill, and some of the Dorset Players building it.
