Fort Salem is a theatre that is between thirty-five and forty-five minutes from Bennington, on Route 22, depending on where you live in town. Originally a church, it has been a theatre since 1979. The theatre focuses on musical theatre, balancing familiar musicals with some innovative and original works. They also present concerts. One of those is particularly intriguing since it features The Singing Anchors, Benita Zahn, Jerry Gretzinger and Jessica Layton. They also have some Farm to Table Dinner Theaters and a Farm to Table Luncheon, as well as cabarets and master classes.
We had a delightful interview with Jay Kerr, the owner and artistic director of the theatre, who has an extensive musical and theatrical background. This is professional musical theatre at reasonable prices. We have never been to the theatre because we hadn’t realized how close and convenient it was. We are looking forward to going soon as well as talking more with Jay and some of his performers. I have included a link to the theatre which will tell you what is playing and when http://www.fortsalemtheater.com/
Here is our interview with Jay. (If when you get a notice of this blog, you don’t see the broadcast, click on the url at the bottom of the page.)
