The How and Why is an absorbing play dealing with a number of issues that include science, feminism and relationships. Bob and I had an informative and stimulating interview with three talented women, the two actresses, Tod Randolph and Bridget Saracino, and director Nicole Riccardi about the play before it opened. Although they shared a great deal with us about their process of working on the play, they cleverly kept the surprises that await the audience from us. As you view the dynamic relationship between these two women with competing scientific theories, one older and accepted in her field and the other just beginning, the intellectual and emotional sparks fly. This is the type of play that, at the end, you want to see the beginning again to fully appreciate all that it is telling you.
You will learn a great deal about acting and directing when you listen to the interviews, but it is only half the story. For the rest, you have to see the play which is at Shakespeare and Company through July 26.
